Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, also known as androstenolone sulfate, is an endogenous androstane steroid that is produced by the adrenal cortex.
Doctor may recommend a DHEA-sulfate serum test to make sure that the patient’s adrenal glands are working properly and that patient has a normal amount of DHEA in your body.
Elevated dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) levels indicate increased adrenal androgen production. Mild elevations in adults are usually idiopathic, but levels of 600 mcg/dL or more can suggest the presence of an androgen-secreting adrenal tumor.
