Vitamin B1, also known as Thiamine, is essential for carbohydrate metabolism, brain function, and peripheral nerve myelination. Blood sample is taken to detect the deficiency of thiamine or Vitamin B1.
This test is useful for assessment of thiamine deficiency.
Values for thiamine diphosphate of less than 70 nmol/L are suggestive of thiamine deficiency.
