Cobalt Blood Test measures Cobalt levels in the blood. Cobalt is a naturally occurring element which contributes to good health in the right amount. Overexposure to Cobalt due to ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact can be dangerous to a person’s health. Exposure typically occurs in industrial settings which use products containing cobalt. Depending on the type of exposure, Cobalt poisoning can cause symptoms such as coughing, breathing problems, skin irritation, nerve damage and heart problems.
This test is useful for detecting cobalt toxicity and monitoring metallic prosthetic implant wear.
