HLA 51 & 52 test is to detect a rare disease of blood vessels, called as Behcet’s syndrome. This syndrome causes the blood vessel inflammation throughout the body which includes mouth sores, eye inflammation, skin rashes and lesions, and genital sores.
HLA- B *51 positivity increases the risk for Behcet’s disease by six times. HLA– B*52 is not associated with additional risk. To check the risk, this test is done.
