Potassium (K+) helps nerves and muscles communicate. It also helps move nutrients into cells and waste products out of cells. Potassium levels in the body are mainly controlled by the hormone aldosterone.
The Potassium Urine 24 Hour Test is done to know whether an individual is having normal or abnormal potassium levels in the urine. This test is done if an individual is suffering from conditions like hyperkalemia (high levels of potassium) and hypokalemia (low levels of potassium). This test is also done to determine the risk of developing a kidney failure.
Normal range for all age groups is 25 – 100mq/24 hr.
