Cholera is a bacterial infection found in food or water sources contaminated with feces (poop). Cholera vaccines or injections are vaccines that are effective at preventing cholera.
A vaccination is available to protect against cholera when travelling, although most people won’t need it because food and water hygiene precautions are usually enough to prevent infection.
Two variants of the inactivated oral vaccine currently are in use: WC-rBS and BivWC. WC-rBS (marketed as “Dukoral”) is a monovalent inactivated vaccine containing killed whole cells of V. cholerae O1 plus additional recombinant cholera toxin B subunit.
