HLA-B27 (Human Leukocyte Antigen B27) test is to determine whether you have human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) on the surface of your cells; to help assess the likelihood that you have an autoimmune disorder associated with the presence of HLA-B27. Doctor asks to this test when you have symptoms of arthritis-like chronic joint pain, stiffness, and inflammation in certain areas of your body, such as your lower back, hips, neck, and chest, or have painful inflammation of the eyes called uveitis, especially if you are male and the symptoms began in your early 30s.
The test is ordered to monitor disease progression.
A negative test indicates the absence of HLA-B27 in your blood. If the test is positive, this means that HLA-B27 is present in your blood.
