A urine calcium test is done to measure how much calcium is passed out of the body through urine. The test is also known as the urinary Ca+2 test.
The urine calcium test is performed to: 1) evaluate whether high calcium levels in the urine resulted in the development of a kidney stone
2) evaluate whether your dietary intake of calcium is high enough
3) evaluate how well your intestines are absorbing calcium
4) detect conditions that lead to calcium loss from your bones
5) evaluate how well your kidneys are functioning
6) look for problems with the parathyroid gland
If you are eating a normal diet, the expected amount of calcium in the urine is 100 to 300 milligrams per day (mg/day) or 2.50 to 7.50 millimoles per 24 hours (mmol/24 hours).
