Serum cholinesterase, often called pseudocholinesterase (PCHE), is distinguished from acetylcholinesterase or “true cholinesterase,” by both location and substrate. PCHE, the serum enzyme, is also found in liver, pancreas, heart, and white matter.

This test is done to determine if you have been exposed to and/or poisoned by certain organophosphate chemicals found in pesticides; to monitor cholinesterase levels if you work with pesticides.
