The presence of anti-HBs is generally interpreted as indicating recovery and
immunity from hepatitis B virus infection. Anti-HBs also develops in a person who has been successfully vaccinated against
hepatitis B.
This assay is useful for identifying previous exposure to Hepatitis B and determining adequate immunity from Hepatitis B vaccination.
A “positive” or “reactive” anti-HBs (or HBsAb) test result indicates that a person is protected against the hepatitis B virus. This protection can be the result of receiving the hepatitis B vaccine or successfully recovering from a past hepatitis B infection.
